Who we are

Kago means to build. That is the whole brief.

We are an integrated team of engineers, technicians, surveyors, quantity surveyors, occupational health and safety specialists and project managers. One firm carries the work from feasibility through to final account, so nothing gets lost in the handover between consultants.

Most of our clients are in the public sector, where budgets are fixed, procurement is scrutinised and communities are waiting. We plan for that from day one: buildable designs, defensible cost plans, and reporting that stands up to audit.

Our mission is straightforward — provide the best services and solutions to our clients, the communities they serve, and South Africa as a whole.

What we offer

Six disciplines, one accountable team.

Appoint us for a single service or for the full professional team. Either way you deal with one point of accountability.

01

Civil & structural engineering

Roads, stormwater, bulk services, reinforced concrete and structural steel — designed to be built, not just drawn.

02

Electrical & mechanical engineering

Reticulation, lighting, standby power, HVAC and wet services for public buildings and campuses.

03

Project & programme management

Multiple concurrent packages coordinated against one programme, one budget and one reporting line.

04

Quantity surveying

Cost planning, procurement documentation, valuations and final accounts — with the audit trail intact.

05

Occupational health & safety

Construction regulation compliance, safety files, site audits and environmental management planning.

06

Topographical & geotechnical survey

Site suitability established before design starts, so the ground conditions are a known quantity.

How we work

Stages 1 to 7,
start to close-out.

We are appointed across the full range of standard work stages. Engage us for the complete cycle, or for any single stage within it.

1

Inception

Establish the brief, the budget parameters and the site's real constraints.

2

Concept & viability

Test options against cost, programme and statutory requirements.

3

Design development

Develop the accepted concept into a coordinated, costed design.

4

Documentation & procurement

Tender documentation and a procurement process that survives scrutiny.

5

Contract administration

Supervise the works, certify payment, control quality and variation.

6

Close-out

Practical completion, defects liability, as-builts and operating manuals.

7

Final account

Reconcile and close the contract with a full, auditable record.

Reporting you can table

Progress reporting written for the people who must defend the project — a council committee, an accounting officer, an auditor.

Construction of a link route across two phases, connecting communities to the surrounding road network. Pavement layers stabilised and trimmed to level, kerbing and channel to both sides, stormwater reticulation, and a block paved carriageway chosen so the route can be maintained and repaired by the municipality with local labour rather than a specialist contractor.

The works were built with a substantial local labour component, with materials and methods selected to keep as much of the spend as possible inside the community the road serves.

A new link route improving access and connectivity for the Mountain View community, delivered across two phases and funded through the Municipal Infrastructure Grant. Earthworks and formation, compacted pavement layers, kerbing and channel to both sides, stormwater, and a block paved carriageway.

The side drains were built as hand-packed stone pitching rather than cast concrete. It is slower, but it uses stone won on site, puts more of the contract value into local wages, and gives the municipality a channel that can be repaired panel by panel instead of replaced.

Township establishment for Matholesville Extensions 3 to 5, appointed under a task order from the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements — the engineering services layout, bulk and internal infrastructure planning that turns land into serviced, transferable residential stands.

The appointment covers 1,653 housing units over a 36-month programme. At that scale the work is as much about sequencing as design: services have to be in the ground, tested and accepted before top structures follow, and the layout has to survive the transfer and conveyancing process at the end of it.

The existing corrugated culvert bridge on Alfred Kobi Street collapsed under flooding, cutting Wedela Extension 3 off from the D92. Kago Built Environment Consultants was appointed for the full professional scope — scoping, preliminary and detailed design, tender documentation, and construction supervision and management.

The site sits next to a gold mine, where the soils are acidic. We identified corrosion as the likely cause of the original culvert's failure, and specified cement and materials selected for corrosion resistance so the replacement does not fail the same way. The new structure is founded on a reinforced concrete raft 3.5 m below the existing road surface, built off dump-rock pioneer layers with concrete sheet piling and a temporary river diversion, because the base slab sits below the water table.

Mr Mosimanekago Meshack Mokae, Managing Director

Mr Mosimanekago Meshack Mokae

Managing Director · Pr CPM (SACPCMP) · Pr Tech Eng (ECSA)

Mr Mokae founded the firm in 2015 and leads it as Managing Director. He holds professional registration on both sides of the delivery equation — as a Professional Construction Project Manager with the SACPCMP and as a Professional Engineering Technologist with ECSA.

That dual registration is deliberate. It means our project management advice is grounded in engineering reality, and our engineering decisions are made with the programme, the contract and the client's budget in view. His technical specialisation is transportation engineering, and he is currently reading for a doctorate in civil engineering.

Community and skills

The project ends.
The community stays.

A clinic, a link route or a sports complex is not a deliverable to us. It is something a community has to live with, use and maintain for decades.

That shapes technical decisions. We specify for the maintenance budget the client will actually have, not the one a glossy design assumes. We detail for local materials and local trades where it does not compromise the work. And we plan construction around the fact that a hospital keeps treating patients and a road keeps carrying traffic while we build.

It also shapes who does the work. We prioritise local labour and local subcontractors on the communities where our projects are built, and we develop candidate engineers, technologists and quantity surveyors inside the practice toward professional registration.

How this shows up on site

  • 01Local labour and SMME subcontracting prioritised on every appointment.
  • 02Candidate professionals mentored toward ECSA, SACQSP and SACPCMP registration.
  • 03Designs specified against the client's real operating and maintenance capacity.
  • 04Construction phased so live facilities keep operating throughout.
  • 05Health, safety and environmental compliance treated as a deliverable, not a formality.

Careers

We hire people who want site boots, not just a desk.

Candidate engineers, technologists, quantity surveyors and construction health and safety agents — if you want exposure to the full project lifecycle rather than one slice of it, we would like to hear from you.

What we look for

  • 01Registration or a credible path to it with ECSA, SACQSP or SACPCMP.
  • 02Comfort on site and in a client meeting on the same day.
  • 03Writing that a municipal committee can read without a translator.
  • 04Respect for the communities our projects are built for.
